'La Petite Auberge' is a Luxury Townhouse B&B which is in a prime
location next to the Waterfront in the Historic town of Youghal. It is a
comfortable and convenient base from which to explore the south coast of
Ireland & offers a high standard of accommodation at a very
reasonable price. The Townhouse was built over 150 years ago in what was
then the 'Port' area which was separated from the ancient 'walled' town
itself. Now, the street is a wide, tree-lined boulevard adjacent to the
harbour with plenty of room for parking. Youghal's shops, bars,
restaurants & wonderful beach are only a short stroll away.
The decor at
'La Petite Auberge' is distinctively 'French' in style, the town being
twinned with 'Larmor-Plage' in Brittany and there is an eclectic mix of
antique & contemporary furnishings with many interesting features. We
have a 'Petite Gallery' of David's Watercolour Paintings depicting
landmarks and scenes in & around Youghal that our guests can enjoy.
Breakfast at 'La Petite Auberge' is quite lavish & has been highly
praised by our guests. There is a great choice on offer supplemented by
a generous 'Buffet'. We use 'organic' produce whenever possible and
every meal is freshly cooked to order. All our rooms are well appointed
& have: Harbour Views, are en-suite with Multi-channel Satellite, TV
with flat screen, complementary Wi-Fi and facilities such as
hairdryer, and a Tea & Coffee Refreshment tray.
Wander
around the fishing harbour just a minutes walk away or enjoy a glass of
wine overlooking the quayside with spectacular views of the estuary &
it's visiting yachts and abundant wildlife.
Youghal has
the longest, ancient surviving town wall in Ireland & over the centuries
the town has been associated with many historic figures such as Sir
Walter Raleigh, Oliver Cromwell, The Dukes of Devonshire to name but a
few. The Visitor's Centre sponsored by Youghal Chamber which is situated
near the ancient clock tower has an excellent museum style exhibition
which briefly explains Youghal's history and is free! A daily escorted
walking tour provides visitors with a great deal of information in this
respect.
The town
hall opposite our B&B has an Arts Centre with regular concerts,
recitals, drama & art exhibitions. Conferences relating to Heritage &
other civic interest groups are also a regular feature.
Apart from the Historic walking tour mentioned there are a number of
recommended walks for the 'rambler' or Country Hiker such as the
Knockaun Nire Valley (near Clonmel/Dungarvan)
-
Dromana Wood
at Villierstown
-
Kilclooney
Wood at Kilmacthomas
-
The Vee in
the Knockmeadown mountains with spectacular scenery.
Slightly inland towards Tallow & Clashmore is horse riding country
together with everything Equestrian. The countryside near places such as
Ballinatray House provide wonderful views of the magnificent Blackwater
River which is arguably the best Salmon River In Ireland and great for
the angler. Youghal itself has fishermen catching Sea Bass & Mackerel
on a daily basis. The river estuary is also the home of a great deal of
bird life.
A sailing school operates from the quayside with Blackwater River
Cruises & dolphin watching also available. Nearby harbours include
Crosshaven (home of the Royal Cork Yacht Club _ the oldest in the world)
and host to the bi-annual sailing festival during Cork Week. There is a
marina at East Ferry on Little Island and another at Kinsale. Dungarvan
also has swinging moorings & an anchorage. Youghal is excellent for the
visiting yachtsman with shops & water available on the quayside.
Diesel
can be ordered by telephone & a small tanker will deliver to the
Quayside.
