'La Petite Auberge' is a beautiful 'Luxury Boutique B&B' built in the early Victorian period and is very centrally located next to the river in the  historic town of Youghal close to all the amenities yet the area is surprisingly peaceful & quiet at night.

The decor is charming and distinctively 'French' in style with an eclectic mix of antique & modern furniture complemented by the creative use of luxury soft furnishings throughout. The property has a magnificent antique front door and the guestrooms all have sea/estuary views as well as a private en-suite, 'Multi-channel Satellite TV & Radio, tea & coffee making facilities, hairdryer & complementary Wi Fi plus there is plenty of parking available at the front of the property.

The breakfast room has a delightful, sunny aspect in the morning with views over the estuary and breakfast itself is lavish & quite substantial with an extensive buffet to start comprising of cereals, yogurt, fresh fruit such as strawberries and pineapple, cheeses & a selection of cold meats & salamis. This is followed by a choice of Full Irish Breakfast, French Omelettes & Smoked Salmon with scrambled eggs, or any variation that would suit our guests.
'Fresh Organic ingredients are used whenever possible'

Wander around the fishing harbour just a minutes walk away or enjoy a glass of wine overlooking the quayside with spectacular views of the estuary & it's visiting yachts and abundant wildlife. Many yachts stay all year round on swinging moorings at present but a yacht marina is planned in the near future. Close by, are Youghal's shops ,bars, cinema, AURA Leisure centre & swimming pool, Perks Entertainment venue with ten pin bowling & other attractions such as an excellent golf course close to the town centre. Many award winning restaurants are located in this area of Co Cork such as Ahernes Seafood restaurant in Youghal itself or The Ballymalloe cookery school Restaurant and The Farm gate In Middleton making Youghal a good base for gastronomic delights. Youghal also has 5 miles of fantastic beaches. At low tide it is possible to cross the road in front of La Petite Auberge to the little beach opposite and continue for approx 10 miles! The lighthouse is one of the oldest in Ireland and can be rented for private parties.

Youghal has the longest, ancient surviving town wall in Ireland & over the centuries the town has been associated with many historic figures such as Sir Walter Raleigh, Oliver Cromwell, The Dukes of Devonshire to name but a few. The Visitor's Centre sponsored by Youghal Chamber which is situated near the ancient clock tower has an excellent museum style exhibition which briefly explains Youghal's history and is free! A daily escorted walking tour provides visitors with a great deal of information in this respect.

The town hall opposite our B&B has an Arts Centre with regular concerts, recitals, drama & art exhibitions. Conferences relating to Heritage & other civic interest groups are also a regular feature.

Apart from the Historic walking tour mentioned there are a number of recommended walks for the 'rambler' or  Country Hiker  such as  the Knockaun Nire Valley (near Clonmel/Dungarvan)

  • Dromana Wood at Villierstown

  • Kilclooney Wood at Kilmacthomas

  • The Vee in the Knockmeadown mountains with spectacular scenery.

Slightly inland towards Tallow & Clashmore is horse riding country together with everything Equestrian. The countryside near places such as Ballinatray House provide wonderful views of the magnificent Blackwater River which is arguably the best Salmon River In Ireland and great for the angler. Youghal itself has fishermen catching Sea Bass &  Mackerel on a daily basis. The river estuary is also the home of a great deal of bird life.

A sailing school operates from the quayside with Blackwater River Cruises & dolphin watching also available. Nearby harbours include Crosshaven (home of the Royal Cork Yacht Club _ the oldest in the world) and host to the  bi-annual sailing festival during Cork Week. There is a marina at East Ferry on Little Island and another at Kinsale. Dungarvan also has swinging moorings & an anchorage.
